How We Structure A Dental Game Plan at Moose Lake Dental

Dentistry Guelph

Each individual is unique, we believe that their dental game plan should be just as unique. When we get new patients, we follow an individualized dental game plan. Each treatment plan is structured in three stages; the corrective phase, the active phase, and the retaining phase.

Phase 1: Disease Control

In this phase, we address any pressing dental issues and active disease. Before we can move into actual correction, we need to take care of disease in and around the teeth. This process can take between a few weeks to a few months. In order for any treatments to be effective, you need to start with a healthy mouth. Our dental team will offer you tips to maintain your oral health both during and after the corrective phases.

Processes included in phase 1:

  • Fillings

  • Extraction

  • Root canal

Once all the initial corrective measures have been carried out, we will proceed to phase 2. If you have a healthy mouth to start off with, you can skip this phase and go right to phase 2.

Phase 2: Rebuilding

The active phase is where we can accurately assess the mouth and tooth behaviour. We will then be able to explain your different treatment options to manage any oral issues. For example, if you have overcrowding, braces may be an option. Missing teeth can be effectively replaced with dental implants and crowns for teeth that have been damaged.

Phase 2 processes:

  • Braces

  • Gum Graft

  • Implants

  • Crowns

Once the active processes have been completed, you will be left with a beautiful and healthy smile. The next step is about preserving that state for as long as we can. Without completing phase three, the hard work could be all for nothing.

Phase 3: Protection and Retention

Finally, the third phase is about retaining the smile that we have worked so hard to achieve. In this stage, we recommend a nightguard to prevent wear and tear from nighttime grinding or issues like the COVID Clench. In order to avoid tooth crowding, a permanent wire can be installed behind the teeth. You won't have to worry about this wire impacting your oral hygiene though, flossing is easy with its wavy pattern. Finally, routine dental cleaning can help maintain low levels of bacteria in the mouth. This phase is also where cosmetic procedures like whitening are the most effective.

Components of phase 3:

  • Nighttime guards

  • Wavy retainer wire

  • Dental cleanings

  • Whitening services
